Have you noticed that we are living among a generation who are calling people to stand? There are various campaigns across our nation to stand for our country’s flag, to stand up for cancer research, and to stand for the rights of minorities. Where are the Christians? Christians have been so indoctrinated with a don’t-offend-anyone philosophy that they are often afraid to stand up and speak up for the truth of God’s Word. While it’s clear that Christians are never to be unloving, they are called to stand!  In the King James translation, the word “stand” is mentioned over 275 times! God is big on wanting His people to STAND!
The word stand means to adopt a firm position about an issue and refuse to budge. The military sense of the word stand means to hold one’s ground against an enemy. Abraham Lincoln said, “Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm.” Throughout history, Christians have taken a stand for the Bible, for freedom to worship, and for life itself. Many have died because of their stand for the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. True Christianity was colored “red” with the blood of martyrs who sacrificed their lives refusing to keep silent!
As committed Christians this is our time, our opportunity to stand for God’s changeless values and eternal truth. God is counting on our generation of believers to be salt and light in this world. When you stand it will require courage, but you are not alone. God promises to empower His message when we obey and stand for Him.
This year as individuals and as a church we are focusing on that one little word from God, that is so powerful in our world, stand. Paul has challenged us all in Ephesians 6:13 to stand! “Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Your stand this year can make a great impact in this world!  It’s time for Christians to stand. Will you stand?
