Pastor Travis Gilbert and wife, Dianna
Pastor Travis Gilbert is the tenth pastor to serve the Rodgers Baptist Church since its organization in 1931. Pastor Travis and Dianna were both raised in southeastern Indiana, along the Ohio River. Both their families are originally from the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky. When they were first married, Virginia was their home while he served in the US Army. Following military service and the birth of their first child, they returned to southeastern Indiana. Soon afterward, God powerfully used a revival meeting preached by Pastor Ron Thomas to cause them to rededicate themselves to serving their Lord.
Pastor Travis and Dianna reestablished their membership with the Dearborn Baptist Church in Aurora, IN, and they began to faithfully attend and serve there. That is where he answered the call to the full-time preaching ministry and eventually served on the pastoral staff under Pastor Darrell Sparks. That church ordained him to the gospel ministry in October 2003.
God called them to the Antioch Baptist Church of Greencastle, IN, where he served as Pastor until joining the staff at Rodgers Baptist Church in November 2009 as the Associate Pastor. In April 2017, they accepted the call to pastor the Bible Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, KY, and that is where they served until April 2023 when they returned to Garland and reunited with Rodgers Baptist Church in answer to God’s call for Pastor Travis to serve as our Senior Pastor.
Since “all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works,” (2 Tim. 3:16–17) and because “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God,” (Rom. 10:17), Pastor Travis is committed to the systematic, expositional preaching of the Bible in order to Biblically train and equip the saints for the work of the ministry (Eph. 4:12; 2 Tim. 2:2). The goal is to see unbelieving people become committed followers of Jesus Christ, growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord.
